Broncos Linebacker Alex Singleton Diagnosed with Testicular Cancer

Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton announced on X & Instagram that after a routine NFL drug screening revealed elevated HcG levels, he was quickly diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent surgery to remove the diseased testicle.

Last Monday, Singleton met with Dr. Andrew Zilavy at Colorado Urology to investigate the initial concerns from the elevated HcG levels. An ultrasound confirmed the testicular cancer diagnosis that same day, and a CT scan revealed that the cancer had not spread beyond his testicle. He is now awaiting final pathology results from the removal of his diseased testicle.

Following the Broncos’ Thursday night win over the Raiders (10–7), Singleton underwent surgery on Friday to remove the testicle. He credited the short game week and his focus on football for helping him stay positive and avoid spiraling while waiting for answers.

Singleton expressed deep gratitude to his support team, including the Broncos organization, his agent - Paul Sheehy, Dr. Zilavy, Dr. Geoff Ledgerwood of Colorado Urology, and his wife, Sam. He also thanked the team’s ownership, coaches, and medical staff for going above and beyond in their support. Their quick work after the diagnosis to handle scheduling his medical appointments and surgery allowed him to fully focus on the game, knowing that he was in great hands.

In a statement released Monday, Singleton emphasized the importance of early detection and regular testicular cancer screenings, noting that his quick diagnosis played a key role in his positive outlook for recovery. He also shared his desire to use his platform for advocacy, saying he “100 percent” wants to be a voice for awareness and help remove the stigma surrounding a testicular cancer diagnosis. Singleton admitted feeling at times like he was “contagious” when teammates first learned of his diagnosis and said he wants to change that perception for others.

Known for his leadership both on and off the field, and as the Broncos’ 2024 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee, Alex has already become a powerful voice for awareness simply by speaking openly about his experience. He spent the weekend after surgery recovering at home with Sam and their nine-month-old daughter, resting and watching football.
