One Year Later: Celebrating Alex Singleton's Survivorship and Impact
One year ago, Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton received news that would change his life. What began with an unexpected result from a routine NFL drug test led to a testicular cancer diagnosis in November 2025, followed by surgery and a journey he never imagined facing.
Today, as Alex marks his one-year cancerversary, we're celebrating an important milestone and reflecting on the incredible difference he's made in the testicular cancer community. In just one year, Alex has turned a deeply personal experience into an opportunity to raise awareness, encourage early detection, and help others feel less alone.
Since sharing his diagnosis, Alex has embraced his role as an advocate with an openness, enthusiasm, and genuine commitment that have meant so much to Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation (TCAF). His willingness to speak publicly about his experience has helped bring important conversations about men's health to audiences who might not otherwise hear them.
Turning a Personal Experience Into Something Meaningful
In a recent article published by The Athletic, Alex reflected on the past year, including the uncertainty surrounding his diagnosis, his return to football, and the unexpected connections he's made through the testicular cancer community.
Although Alex returned to the field shortly after surgery, he has been open about the emotional side of his experience. When he first connected with TCAF founder and CEO Kim Jones, he admitted that he initially struggled to consider himself a cancer survivor because he knew others had endured much more difficult journeys.
"I was ashamed to even consider myself a survivor."
— Alex Singleton, The Athletic
It's a feeling many survivors can relate to. Every cancer experience is different, and no one's journey is any less meaningful because their treatment or recovery looked different. For Alex, hearing Jordan Jones' story and learning about the mission behind TCAF helped him recognize the opportunity he had to make a difference simply by sharing his own experience.
As Kim shared in The Athletic, Alex's willingness to use his platform to encourage young men to take their health seriously is something that can leave a lasting legacy. His story is a reminder that speaking openly about testicular cancer, recognizing symptoms, and seeking medical attention when something doesn't feel right can make a meaningful difference.
A Special Connection to TCAF
For TCAF, Alex's involvement has been especially meaningful because of the personal connection he shares with our founder, Kim Jones, and the memory of her son, Jordan.
Jordan was just 13 years old when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2007. After undergoing treatment, he faced a recurrence years later and sadly passed away in 2016 at the age of 22. His courage, personality, and determination continue to inspire the work we do every day.
When Kim first spoke with Alex, she was immediately reminded of Jordan. Both were born in 1993, shared a love of football, and had outgoing personalities and a passion for life. As Kim described in The Athletic, Alex's confidence, smile, and enthusiasm brought back memories of her son in a way she hadn't expected.
“The outgoing personality, the confidence, the smile that you cannot wipe off Alex’s face, it was the same demeanor as Jordan.”
That connection has grown into a meaningful friendship and partnership. Alex has embraced TCAF's mission wholeheartedly, helping carry forward the awareness and support that Jordan's story continues to inspire. For Kim and our entire organization, seeing Alex use his experience to help others has been incredibly special.
As Kim also shared in the article:
"Jordan is my saving grace, and he's saving other lives."
— Kim Jones
Those words reflect the heart of TCAF's mission and the lasting impact Jordan continues to have through the people who carry his story forward.
A Year of Giving Back
One of the most meaningful parts of this past year has been seeing Alex's commitment to raising awareness extend far beyond the football field. He has generously given his time, shared his story, and supported TCAF in ways that have helped us reach new audiences and build meaningful connections.
Just weeks after his diagnosis, Alex chose to represent TCAF through the NFL's My Cause My Cleats initiative, wearing custom-designed purple cleats during his first game back following surgery. He continued that support on October 15, 2026, once again wearing his cleats to bring attention to testicular cancer awareness. Following the game, he also shared his experience with a national television audience, helping bring an important message about men's health to viewers across the country.
In April, Alex joined us in Austin, Texas, for the Check Your NADS March, walking alongside survivors and supporters to raise awareness during Testicular Cancer Awareness Month. Joined by Broncos teammate Jahdae Barron, Alex helped encourage conversations about early detection while connecting with members of the community. His enthusiasm and willingness to participate made the experience especially memorable.
The following month, Alex brought that same energy to Indianapolis for our Indy's Nuts campaign surrounding the Indianapolis 500. Alongside IndyCar driver Jack Harvey, he spent time meeting fans, sharing his story, and connecting with fellow survivors. His involvement helped introduce testicular cancer awareness to an entirely new audience while showing how meaningful those personal connections can be.
Most recently, Alex helped us create a memorable surprise at our 11th Testicular Cancer Conference in Indianapolis. Through a special prerecorded video, Alex initially led attendees to believe he would be receiving the Jordan Jones Memorial Achievement Award, before revealing that the true recipient was our longtime conference host and board member, BJ Lange. It was a heartfelt and lighthearted moment that made BJ's recognition even more special, and we are so grateful to Alex for helping us celebrate someone who has given so much to TCAF.
Beyond these events, Alex continues to give back through his fundraising efforts, including his commitment to donate for every tackle he makes during the 2026 NFL season in support of TCAF and its programs.
In The Athletic article, BJ shared what so many of us have come to appreciate about Alex, describing how he spent time with everyone at the Indy 500 rather than simply making an appearance.
"He was there the whole time and he was just one of us."
— BJ Lange, The Athletic
That sentiment captures what makes Alex's involvement so special. He doesn't simply lend his name to a cause. He shows up, takes the time to connect with people, and genuinely cares about making a difference.
More Than a Milestone
Reaching one year after a cancer diagnosis can bring a mixture of emotions. There is gratitude for how far you've come, but there can also be uncertainty about what lies ahead. Even after treatment is complete, the experience of cancer can continue to shape someone's perspective on life, health, and the future.
Alex has been open about those feelings, including the challenges of identifying as a survivor and the importance of appreciating everyday moments. His honesty is a reminder that survivorship is more than completing treatment. It's an ongoing experience, and everyone navigates it differently.
What makes Alex's story especially powerful is how he's chosen to use his experience to help others. Through football, community events, fundraising, and everyday conversations, he continues to encourage men to pay attention to their health and speak up when something doesn't seem right.
“To go through the tragedy she went through and use it to really save the world is special.”
As we celebrate this milestone, we're reminded of the importance of every story shared, every conversation started, and every person who feels encouraged to take action because someone else was willing to speak openly about their experience.
A Heartfelt Thank You
