Therapeutic Effects of Alpha-lipoic Acid on Cisplatin-induced Ototoxicity

There have been previous studies suggesting that the major cause of cisplatin-induced ototoxicity is due to an abnormal accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress. Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is one of the most effective antioxidants that may have a protective effect on cisplatin-induced hearing loss. This is not fully understood yet but there is a potential for ALA to be a protective or therapeutic agent in this type of ototoxicity.
