Second Annual Tee Off for Testicular Cancer Raises Nearly $40,000 in Norfolk
The 15th Tee Off for Testicular Cancer Golf Tournament - Steven Crocker’s second tournament in Norfolk - delivered another successful day of community, competition, and impact, raising nearly $40,000 in support of the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation.
Built on the momentum from last year, supporters, survivors, and advocates came together once again, focused on raising awareness and standing with men and families facing a diagnosis.
The day itself was everything you hope for in a tournament like this. The weather was perfect, the course was in great shape, and the energy was there from the beginning. Players showed up ready to have a good time and support something that matters.
There were a few moments across the course that stood out. At Hole 11, players had the option to use an AR-15 style golf ball launcher off the tee, which quickly became one of the most talked about stops of the day. A few holes later at Hole 15, professional long driver Scottie Pearman was set up with hole sponsor Charity Golf International. Teams could pay to have him tee off for them and play their next shot from wherever he landed it.
Across the course, Kim Jones and BJ Lange made their way from group to group, checking in on players, hyping people up, and keeping the energy high.
Behind the scenes, tournament organizer & Board Member Steven Crocker ran the event alongside his wife Ashley, his parents Lori and Chuck, Ashley’s mom and dad, and his brother Blake and sister-in-law, who traveled in from New York. As a testicular cancer survivor and host of the It Takes Balls podcast, Steven’s connection to the mission runs deep, and that personal touch was felt throughout the day. It was a true family effort, and it showed in how smoothly the day came together.
The tournament brought together a wide mix of people. Testicular cancer survivor Josh Olson joined with his family to form one of the foursomes, while others, including local Sewells Point golfers, jumped in and joined teams for the day, adding to the relaxed and welcoming feel.
That same sense of community carried through the entire event. Platinum sponsor Natera played a key role in the weekend and hosted a dinner the night before the tournament for survivors and their loved ones. Media sponsors FM99 WNOR and 106.9 The Fox were also on site, playing music from the station at the clubhouse before the shotgun start.
Additional support came from Gold sponsors Sea Port Marine, Virginia Oncology Associates, and Amanda Robbins Photography, Silver sponsors Urology of Virginia and East West Construction, Bronze sponsor Mythics, and General sponsors The Gala 417 and Atlantic Foundations.
Corporate team sponsors filled the course with teams from TK Paragon, Tidewater Block, Riverside Brick and Supply, Dominion Energy, Batchelder and Collins, Flagstone Foods, ICI Foods, and Oldcastle APG Mid Atlantic.
Hole sponsors including TK Paragon, Priority Foundation Repair, Downs Dental Care, True Metal Supply, Freedom Outdoors, Southern Bank, Game Day Men’s Health in Norfolk and Hampton, Zero’s Subs at the Oceanfront, and Batchelder & Collins created interactive stops throughout the course with games, prizes, and plenty of engagement.
After the final putts dropped, everyone came back together to wrap things up and celebrate. Trophies were awarded for both first and last place, there was a hole in one, and lighter moments like the “Most Balls Lost” award, earned by TCAF advocate Brian Vesall, who lost 11 over the course of the round.
The day closed out with raffle prizes provided by local businesses across the Hampton Roads area, including Chick’s Oyster Bar, The Porch on Long Creek, Outback Steakhouse, Jungle Golf, Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, Dairy Queen, Leaping Lizard Cafe, Buffalo Wild Wings, Trader Joe’s, Freedom Outdoors, Golf Headquarters, Black Rifle Coffee Company, Bubba’s 33, Taste, The Carolina Club, No Frill Grill, Bro’s Fish Tacos, Get Air Trampoline Park, Dave and Buster’s, Untamed Chef VA, Texas Roadhouse, VB Tiki Tours, Wasserhund Brewing Company, Lynnhaven Golf Park, Golf Galaxy, FM99 and 106.9 The Fox, Norfolk Tides, Cheesecake Factory, Doumar’s, Flagstone Foods and Emerald Nuts, and Virginia Trophy.
From start to finish, the tournament reflected what makes this community special. The support, the turnout, and the energy all came together to make a real impact.
Thank you to all who came out in support. Your generosity helps us raise life-saving awareness and continue providing resources for those affected by testicular cancer. We’re already looking forward to seeing you again next April!
