Ambassador Bio: Ricky James

Kim Jones

Hello everyone. My name is Ricky. I'm a native of southeast Louisiana. I was diagnosed with testicular cancer on Oct. 3rd, 2012, at age ‪45, at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans‬, after feeling heaviness and some pain for a few weeks. A few days later ‪on Oct. 8th‬, I had Orchiectomy surgery on my right testicle with a prosthetic implanted at Tulane Medical Center. The path report revealed stage 1b non-seminoma with LVI. The tumor was composed of 95% seminoma, 5% immature teratoma with malignant transformation to PNET. I received a 2nd opinion for treatment options at MD Anderson in Houston. Starting December 10th, 2012, I received 1xBEP chemo regimen inpatient at MD Anderson. I had a pretty rough time after chemo with side effects for a couple of years, but I'm doing much better now. I'll be celebrating my 5 years in remission ‪on Oct. 8th, 2017‬! Both my parents died of cancer before I was 25, so when cancer invaded my body, I was truly terrified. My testicular cancer diagnosis changed me forever. TCAF and Jordan Jones' story on YouTube, along with the love and support of my family and friends, was truly my rock in getting through my diagnosis and treatment. After my diagnosis, I spent months educating myself online on all aspects of testicular cancer. I'm doing everything I can to raise awareness about this disease. I've had some other medical issues and surgeries to go through since my testicular cancer diagnosis and treatment. All have made me stronger!

TCAF's new Ambassador program is fantastic! Words can't be typed here on how great this program is! The more visible and available we are to ALL those seeking advice, information and support, the more testicular cancer becomes talked about and discussed by everyone. We want guys of all ages to start paying close attention to their bodies and make serious note of any changes they may feel or see as EARLY as possible and seek medical attention. On a weekly basis I post Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation information on my Facebook page and discuss in public. I'm on the phone with survivors and those in treatment supporting them in every way I can. Many of us have become VERY close. Over 100 of my Facebook friends are testicular cancer survivors. It's a fellowship like I've NEVER experienced before! Please feel free to contact me for any information and support you may need. I'm here to help you in any way I can. Enjoy your day!
